Theresa J. Garcia, PhD, RN

Assistant Professor of Nursing

Dr. Theresa Garcia is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.  She joined Corpus Christi, College of Nursing and Health Sciences in September of 2013. She teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, in courses covering Research Methods, Community Nursing, Epidemiology, Health Law & Ethics, Health Policy, Executive Leadership and several courses across the DNP curriculum. She has also served as the DNP Program Coordinator for her college and loves working with all students on research and evidence-based practice projects.

Dr. Garcia’s career spans over 30 years of clinical nursing primarily in pediatric intensive care.  She also has a wealth of experience as a legal nurse consultant in health law and liability litigation. Her research addresses chronic disease prevention and management across the lifespan, and is well published on several topics.

Dr. Garcia received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing at The University of Texas at Austin.

Sebastien Girard, MBA

Senior Vice President & Chief People Officer

Sebastien Girard serves as Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer at Centura Health. Supporting a team of 21,000 outstanding caregivers, Sebastien is on a mission to serve, elevate and care for every community, every patient and every associate. Sebastien is an accomplished human resources leader with talents and practical skills in workforce planning, talent acquisition and management, HR technologies, and market disruption.

Sebastien’s career spans more than 20 years in overseeing sales, human resources and recruiting teams, profit and loss statement management, and adapting talent acquisition business models to market needs in the staffing and healthcare industries.

Sebastien holds a Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management.

Rebecca M. Martin, BSN, RN

Nurse Manager

Rebecca Martin is a Nurse Manager at Parkland Health & Hospital System in their Ambulatory Clinics. Over her 27 years of nursing she has spanned areas from Burn and Trauma Intensive care, Case Management and Ambulatory Care. 

She entered leadership as a manager in the Care Management department and helped to establish the department and bring multiple disciplines together to become a cohesive team focused on discharge planning. Over the past 10 years she has been a manager in the Ambulatory clinics for Medicine Specialty, Primary Care and for the Nurse Navigator program. .

Rebecca received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

Patrick Parete, MSN, RN, CNOR, RNFA

Clinical Consultant, Strategic Operations

Patrick Parete started at Cleveland Clinic in 1995 as a patient care technician and became a registered nurse in 1997. Over his career, he has practiced in the PACU, CTICU, as a team member of the cardiovascular organ procurement team and the EP lab.

During his career Patrick has held a variety of roles ranging from staff nurse to nurse manager.  Since 2014, Patrick has been working as a clinical consultant and project manager with the Cleveland Clinic the Heart & Vascular Institute Affiliate Program team.

Patrick received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Cleveland State University and Kent State University, respectively. He has held clinical faculty appointments with Case Western Reserve University and Lorain County Community College.
